Traditional Catholic practice recommends that every person have their own rule of life, a set of principles to live by, based largely on their own experiences, and that everyone should compile their own list. However, the foundation should be common to all: the commandments of God and the law of the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was inspired by an American Catholic entrepreneur Stephen L. M. Heiner<\/a>, who based on Peterson's Twelve Rules for Life<\/em><\/a> compiled his rules for life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I finished reading Peterson's most famous book in 2024, and I must admit that it helped me considerably on my journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Slow down \u2013 never rush!<\/strong> Unnecessary rushing through life will not bring you anything good and will only ruin your chances of real success, which comes from concentration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Always concentrate properly on what you are doing. <\/strong>You don't do a good job by always doing only what you want to do, but by approaching everything with love and maximum effort. Only by devoting your full attention to the task at hand can you complete it fully and with high quality. Superficiality gets quickly revealed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Learn to serve. <\/strong>This is undoubtedly the most difficult thing in our earthly life. However, humility and service to God and our neighbor always keep us at peace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Never stop being amazed. <\/strong>Keep that little explorer boy who rejoices in the little things, discovers his surroundings with enthusiasm, and observes how God is constantly working for our good!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Let everything you do be a prayer. <\/strong>St. Paul teaches us to pray constantly\u2014that is, to offer up all, absolutely all, of our daily and nightly work and activities to the Lord, that He may bless them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Do sports. <\/strong>God gave you a healthy body so that you could strengthen and improve it through exercise and sport. Keep yourself in reasonable shape, strengthen and train yourself. It is not only exercise for the body, but also for the spirit and will.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Realize that everything you do has a tremendous impact. <\/strong>We often fail to notice it, but we make the biggest and most influential decisions every day. Through the words we use, the habits we develop, and how we use our time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Learn to listen without getting up from your chair. <\/strong>Calm your passions and peacefully digest anything that might upset you. At the right time, you will know how to react.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Keep a journal.<\/strong> Check yourself, observe yourself, examine your heart. Talk to yourself so that you know where you stand before God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Study history. <\/strong> Learn from the past, uncover fascinating stories from our history to better understand what is happening now and how the future may unfold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Devote yourself to foreign languages. <\/strong>It is often said that traveling is one of the best ways to learn. But what better way to broaden your horizons and enrich your skills than through the local language?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Remember death. <\/strong>Everything in this earthly life is vanity\u2014life is too short and eternity too long to waste your time on created things in an excessive and ungodly manner.
